History of
BWC
Established in 1987 by Brian Walters and operating out of our original premises at College Lane, Bridgwater, BW Controls began making control panels for industrial end users such as factories, quarries and manufacturers.
From Previous Successes
Even in these early years we were enormously proud to supply well known brands; Gillette, Kellogs and Heinz were early customers, as well as regional water companies such as Wessex Water – many are clients we maintain to this day.
Always focused on building new business from previous successes, our first ever Wessex Water project was to supply a small twin Variable Speed Drive (VSD) for high rate filter odour extraction at Chilton Trinity. This was soon followed up with a more significant contract to supply 27 back-to-back starters and plc controller, at Crewkerne Sewage Treatment Works.
Resilient Growth Amid Adversity
In 1989 an ultimately fateful move to a new premises at the Wirework, Bridgwater was required to support the growth of the business.
Tragically a fire at an an adjacent premises spread to our own building, destroying it entirely, necessitating a move to Bath Bridge Business Park.
Even with such unexpected additional pressures, within three years our business had grown from a modest £180,000 t/o to £700,000 t/o and 8 staff by 1990.
Commitment to Quality Legacy
In 2005 Lee Fowler acquired BW Controls from Brian Walters. Lee insisted on a total commitment to quality and his focus on creating a financially sustainable business resulted in steady growth over a 17-year tenure.
We are extremely proud that so many of the engineers from this period remain in the business today, further enhancing our market-leading depth of experience and understanding.
New Leadership, Modern Vision, Expanded Success
Leading up to 2022, Lee had decided that it was time for him to exit the business. Step forward new owner, entrepreneur and engineer Tom Parsons!
Tom is an exceptional leader who has built a senior team around him to propel BW Controls to further success. His agenda has been to expand the scope of projects undertaken, along with the client base. He has introduced and encouraged the adoption of modern systems, operational methodologies and new employment strategies such as a progressive four day working week.
Today the business employs 30 people, supports multiple projects for an array of clients, and has steadily and sustainably grown annual turnover.
