BW Controls

Case Study:

Future-Proofing Wessex Water’s assets

Wessex Water, a leading water and sewerage services provider and a long-term client of BW Controls, embarked on an ambitious project to future-proof assetsin preparation for the AMP 8 and AMP 9 investment periods. The goal was to design power distribution panels in line with statutory requirements from both DNO companies – National Grid & SSE

The main driver for the project was the development of standard designs for reliable radio link systems for enhanced communication for both 200kva and 500kva supplies.

Our Solution

Our approach centred around developing tailored yet standardised solutions to meet the specific needs of Wessex Water and the regulatory requirements of DNOs. The key elements of our solution included:

200kva Supply: We proposed a roadside kiosk option for the 200kva supply, ensuring ease of access and installation.

500kva Supply: For larger power needs, we designed a walk-in kiosk mounted on an elevated steel platform, providing durability and safety.

We utilised both microwave and radio frequency technologies to ensure robust and reliable communication links between the reservoirs and the central monitoring station.

The systems were designed to offer seamless integration with existing infrastructure, minimizing disruption during installation.

This project required close collaboration with various stakeholders and meticulous planning, including collaboration with Wessex Water’s chosen civils design company, with whom we shared critical information and coordinated efforts to ensure a smooth implementation phase.

Key benefits

Timely completion: we fulfilled each of our commitments on-budget and on-time.

Future-Proof Infrastructure: Wessex Water’s reservoirs are now equipped with upgraded, reliable advanced communication systems, ready for the AMP 8 and AMP 9 periods.

Standardised Solutions: Our standardised designs met the requirements of Wessex Water and different DNOs (SSE and National Grid) while being flexible for each site’s specific needs.

Seamless Implementation: Through effective collaboration and detailed planning, the implementation phase was executed flawlessly, minimising any operational disruptions.

We are proud to have partnered with Wessex Water on this critical project. Our innovative solutions and collaborative approach reflects our commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction and ensured that the reservoir sites are well-prepared for future challenges,.
